Combat Sambo Rules

*Some adjustments have been made below to the FIAS rules concerning uniform policy concerning athletes being able to substitute white gi jackets in leu of  the standard red or blue sambo jacket. It should be noted that further adjustments can be made, for instance; Liberia Sambo may decide that athletes will compete in MMA Shorts and protective kit if Gi's are unavailable. 

Bout Length: 5min 

Minimum Time between Rounds: 10 min 

2 referees One main Referee and one Side Referee


Weight Classes


Win by: 

  • A Perfect Throw (Partial throws are awarded 1, 2 or 4 points)

  • Point Difference of 8 points or more

  • Knock out (Knockdowns get a standing 10 count and are awarded 4 points)

  • Submission (attempts get 1 min.)

  • Opponent receives 4 warnings 


Points:

Pins 20 seconds or greater: 2 points 

Strikes that stumble the opponent to the mat in any way receive 1 point

Warnings: second and third warnings: opponent receives 1 point ea. 



Combat SAMBO contestant uniform: 

a SAMBO/Judo jacket, SAMBO or no shoes (no wrestling shoes with hard soles), SAMBO shorts and protective equipment. Female participants shall wear a breast protective bandage and a white shirt 

Competitors should be distinctly marked from a blue corner and a red corner in the case of using white judo gi tops as opposed to red and blue Sambo jackets. This should be achieved by the use of Red and Blue Belts. 


Protective Equipment: 

a) combat sambo helmet with the open chin and face area if headbutts are to be allowed  b) combat sambo gloves (strike-gripping)

c) leg guards (pads) covering the front of the shin and the sambo shoes lacing

d) mouth guard

e) groin protector (hard cup) for men

f ) chest protector for women


Legal Techniques Strikes:  

-All Kicks, Forearm Shivers, Punches, Knees and Elbows 


Illegal Strikes: No Strikes to: The back of the head, neck, collar bone, tail bone, against the natural bend of a joint (strikes to the front of the knee for example). No Palm Heal or open hand strikes or finger jabs. 


No elbow strikes are allowed on the ground. Strikes are allowed standing and on the ground (IF both parties are grounded) No strikes are allowed against a grounded opponent if you are standing, but a grounded opponent MAY strike a standing opponent. 


Headbutts are allowed if the contestants are wearing headgear. 


Submissions:

All Submissions are legal except: Twisting Knee Locks, Chokes using the hands, Twisting Spine Locks, Figure 4 Toe Holds
